Materials Engineer II

Duration: 12 Months+

The ideal candidate for this position will have experience working in a polymer lab and will be familiar with the typical tools, instruments, and safety procedures used in such an environment. You will be responsible for collecting data, documenting your findings, and presenting results to a collaborative team of scientists and engineers. Our team is highly cross-functional, and is looking for a motivated self-starter who can be hands-on in our laboratory.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Run experiments based on a defined SOP
  • Process polymer material samples using solvent casting, melt extrusion, and calendaring.
  • Characterize polymers including dielectric measurements, mechanical testing including Instron, 3-point bending, adhesive testing, surface energy measurements, DMA, DSC, rheology, SEM, optical microscopy.
  • Familiarity with available methods to measure thermal conductivity of samples.
  • Experience in designing thermal setup related to measuring convective, radiative heat transport.
  • Familiarity with heat pipes and vapor chamber. Experience with fabrication of VC is highly desirable.
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers to present findings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS/MS in Chemical/Materials Engineering or similar
  • 2+ years of experience with polymer characterization
  • Able to follow complicated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Clear and effective communication, as well as documentation skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD in materials science/polymer engineering with emphasis on thermal performance of materials.
  • Experience with LFA is highly desirable.
  • Experience with designing and setting up thermal set ups are highly desirable.
