Looking for an experienced Site Safety officer.

Open to per-diem and travel ($135/day)

The Site Safety and Health Officer is responsible for providing independent technical, regulatory, and programmatic support to construction site including occupational safety, industrial hygiene, and fire protection. They will ensure the site and work practices are compliant with applicable regulation and company policies. This role is a vital role onsite to establish and implement a safe work culture throughout the worksite.

Functions as site Safety Professional for assigned construction project. Act as an active, onsite resource for all safety related questions, concerns, and areas of improvement.

• Manage site safety inspection programs and associated data collection and trending.

• Maintain site safety related documentation including training records, orientation records, contractor safety statistics, and incident records and reporting, and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHA’s).

• Attend and participate in all project meetings that have a safety component. Deliver daily safety message at Plan of the Day meeting. Resource topic material for weekly/monthly All Hands safety meeting and present as necessary. Participate in contractor safety meetings and initiatives.

• Manage site owner regulatory responsibilities of a multi-employer worksite.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Conduct personnel and equipment inspections daily.
  • Conduct safety orientations and meetings with personnel at the jobsite.
  • Conduct mishap investigations.
  • Maintain applicable safety reference material at the jobsite.
  • Attend pre-construction conference, pre- work meetings, and three phase inspection meetings.
  • Implement and enforce the site Accident Prevention Plan (APP), AHAs and EM 385-1-1
  • Ensure subcontractor compliance of safety requirements.
  • Remove personnel not wearing proper PPE or are a safety risk.
  • Required Experience, Education, Skills, and Certifications: Experience working on US Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) construction projects with at least 5 years' experience as a Safety Supervisor with updated continued education per the EM 385-1-1.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 5 or more years of field experience with Safety as the primary function

• OSHA 30 Certification

• Strong communication skills

• Experience working with limited supervision

• Strong computer skills, including knowledge and proficiency of Microsoft Office Suite

The SSHO is also required to have proof of employment for:

(1)  Five (5) years of continuous construction industry safety experience in supervising/managing general construction (managing safety programs or processes or conducting hazard analyses and developing controls), on DOD or US Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) projects, or 

(2)  Five (5) years of continuous general industry safety experience in supervising/managing general industry (managing safety programs or processes or conducting hazard analyses and developing controls), on DOD or US Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) projects.

The SSHO will have completed:

Formal construction or industry safety and health training and certification covering the subjects of the OSHA 30-hour course and the EM 385-1-1.

The SSHO, as a minimum, must produce a copy of their instructor-signed OSHA 30-hour training card (or course completion if within 90 days of having completed the training and card has not yet been issued).

At least 8 hours of documented formal, online, or self-study safety and health related coursework each year.

  • Professional Certifications (CSP, OHST, CHST)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety or related field.
  • EM 385-1-1 40-hour Certification
