Electrical Engineer

Duration: 12 Months

The Electrical Engineer position is responsible for the sustaining engineering, design, development, and verification of YSI sensors and measurement instruments. This role reports to the Engineering Manager, Business Continuity & Improvements (BC&I).

Working hours: 8 - 5 pm

Likely to convert to FT based on performance

Must be onsite first few weeks for training, can transition to remote based on performance and manager's approval

Must have: Circuit board design skills (PCB), trouble shooting skills, experience in engineer change order (ECO, sometimes called ECN)

Travel Requirement (5%): Must be available to travel 20 - 30 miles to testing sites or to meet with vendors. Mileage reimbursement will be provided

Interview will be onsite

• Evaluate field failures, warranty claims, or issues with current product performance for improvement and/or cost reduction

• Provide electrical engineering expertise to manufacturing to help solve production and product problems.

• Provide electrical engineering expertise to Quality to help solve product field problems.

• Provide electrical engineering expertise to Purchasing to assist in the procurement of electronic components.

• Design and develop analog and digital embedded electronic circuits to meet performance, cost, assembly, test, packaging, and project schedule objectives for assigned projects.

• Enter schematics into CAD system and/or support PCB design efforts by others.

• Update PCB drawings and/or supervise the electrical draftsman to revise drawings.

• Create, submit, and execute ECO’s (Engineering Change Orders) using Oracle.

• Specify and source prototype components, assist with prototype assembly, debug prototype assemblies.

• Support and conduct testing activities to verify performance versus requirements of components and systems developed.

• Document the concepts, design, testing, and analysis for electronic circuits developed. Familiar with all aspects of a PCB drawing package (BOM’s, Gerber Files, Schematics).

Qualifications - Experience & Academic Requirements:

• 4 year degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 2-3 years of analog and digital electronic (embedded system) design.

• Familiarity with EMC (electro-magnetic compatibility) design and testing practices desirable.

• Ability to design using electronic CAD software tools for schematic design desirable. Experience with Altium is preferred.

• Knowledge and experience with LabView a bonus.

• The ability to evaluate and make recommendations on cost control, reliability and manufacturability issues while maintaining aggressive development schedules.

• Excellent testing and troubleshooting skills

• The ability and desire to work in a fast-paced team environment, working with a cross functional team (e.g. electrical, firmware, mechanical and system test engineers) to create a fully functional system

• The desire and ability to learn new tools and design techniques.

Physical Demands - Working Conditions:

• Mostly general office environment but will also involve some working in Laboratory and Factory floor locations.

• Regularly required to sit or stand, reach, bend and move about the facility

• Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
