Network and System Engineer
Duration: 12 Months+
This is an onsite role.
Network and System Engineer position will assist in supporting and implementing G2D2 Network and Systems with emphasis on Network Operations, Security. Support of related Systems Administration will be a secondary capacity.
Primary Responsibility for:
- Network LAN/WAN operations
- Following Information Security “Best Practice”
- Participate in project management, technology implementation and change initiatives
- Firewall, EndPoint Discovery, and Response, XDR for Extended Detection and Response
- Support Cisco/Meraki based network operations
Examples of Current Technology Environment:
- Aruba, Dell, Cisco L2 and 3 switches
- Cisco Router configuration
- Active Directory, VMWare, Server Administration
- Cisco Fortinet Firewall configuration
- Multi-Factor Authentication
- Objective is no single points of failure in our production environment
Illustrative Work Activities:
- Essential work activities, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Effectively participate in assigned services and activities of the Local Area Network (LAN), Wide area Network(WAN), Day-to-day operation telephony System; implementing, and administering of all security related items to include redundancy, Multi-factor authentication, firewall maintenance and all related information technology hardware and software; manage and maintain data , encryption, and equipment security.
- Participate in technology related projects within the utility.
- Assist with the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of all information technology and operational technology systems, including servers, PC’s, operating systems, hardware, software, peripherals and application development, and telecommunication systems.
- Participate in assessment and choice of the most appropriate technology to bring into G2D2 and make sure that it is scalable and flexible to G2D2’s needs.
- Provide routine information technology support functions including user basic administration, system monitoring, simple task automation, and other duties.
- Perform related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, as determined by G2D2, required. Educational focus must be in Information Systems, Computer Science or any other field that emphasizes technology management, systems design, or similar technology management education.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the administration, management, and implementation LAN/WAN switching, routing, and redundancy
- Experience in the electric power industry directly related to information technology and/or operational technology administration is desirable.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of utility specific information and operational technology is desirable
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
- Ability to analyze and implement business processes
- Ability to effectively use analytical skills
- Ability to interpret tactical and strategic plans and policies
- Strong oral, written, and communication skills
- Familiarity with office procedures, and equipment including networking and information security.
- Well-developed computer skills and excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, Power Point, and SharePoint.
Judgment and Initiative:
- Performs duties in accordance with established policies, procedures, laws and professional standards; unusual policy questions involving interpretation or clarification will be reviewed with Director of Information Technology.
- Initiative in ensuring continued process improvements in areas of job description duties to demonstrate better accuracy, productivity, safety and customer service, is expected. Understanding of utility best practices enables predictive and preventative initiatives.
