Product Designer

Industry – Consumer electronics

Contract: 12 Months+

Job Category: Data Engineering

Job Description:

Team description

At Labs, we're building the next generation of computing devices, and a critical area is how people communicate and get together. The VR Social System Design team focuses on how people communicate, coordinate, travel and experience immersive destinations in the Metaverse, and we could use your help! Come help us shape the future of VR/metaverse.

We're looking for a product designer who's excited to work across 2D and immersive VR surfaces to build a robust set of communication and coordination tools that can live alongside Family of Apps solutions like Messenger, WhatsApp and IG Direct. Working at Reality Labs is challenging, complex, and also like...pretty rad.

You'll be working in partnership with multiple designs teams across VR, our own developers, product managers, and researchers and more. Our mission is to expand human connections: to help people discover new friends, make meaningful connections, build strong communities, and find new things to do with those connections.

What Problems Are We Solving?

  • How do people coordinate in VR? How does the calling experience work in VR?
  • How does one experience the magic of VR with their friends seamlessly?
  • How do you express yourself and build meaningful connections in VR?
  • How do you build community and find the sense of belonging in VR?

Key responsibilities:

Serve as the primary representative of the VR social team’s overall surface quality, and consistency with the rest of the VR product systems & devices.

You will represent our team and collaborate with Product design systems and system UX designers to come up with design solutions, systems/components that are both serve our user needs and beautiful.

You will be our quality champion, holding the line and responsible for the quality bar of our surface, making sure every experiment that users see is of the highest visual and interaction quality.

As the social team, we have various touch points from our social app to the overall calling and traveling experience regardless of what app you’re in. We also need to consider different surfaces from the main VROS interface to Horizon worlds app, to our companion mobile app. You would be the representative who establishes consistency and has the user experience be seamless/makes sense for each surface based on the particular need.

Collaborate with other designers on the team to develop and maintain clear documentation that can be used to share/collaborate with other teams.

Provide implementation guidance to engineers and ensure features launch at the highest quality.

Qualifications:

You don’t need: No, you don't need VR Design experience—very few people in this world have that. But you should at least have interest in the VR space.

You don't need to be a gamer. We're actively working towards making the VR operating system a general-purpose computing device, so actually, holistic thinkers are highly preferred.

You also don't need to be as technical as our Unity / C# Prototypers and Technical artists. But if you have coded in the past, it's a great plus.

You do need:

Exceptional interaction and visual design skills, with expert command of visual hierarchy, layout, typography, and attention to detail

A drive for technical, scalable, and user-centric models of building things

Solid communicator and collaborator.

Experience working with research and data to drive decision making.

Nice to have:

  • Experience designing for hardware products and new interaction models.
  • VR/AR or 3D experiences including Unity.
  • Social related or gaming experience
  • Experience in prototyping using design tools like Figma, Principle etc.
