Quality Engineer

Duration:  12 Months 

Provides quality planning, control, and improvement support for product development teams, manufacturing engineering, supply management, and manufacturing and/or distribution organizations to assure product quality meets the customers' expectations.

This includes the application of quality tools within the Enterprise Product Delivery Process (EPDP), Enterprise Order Fulfillment Process (EOFP) and Customer Support Process (CSP).

Also supports application of quality tools with key suppliers as an integral element of quality planning.

Duties:

  • Participates on PDP (Product Delivery Process) teams as the Quality representative, ensuring quality activities and plans are formulated and followed.
  • Engages in applying/leading Quality tools in Product Delivery Process (PDP) teams.
  • Encourages early interaction of both customer and supplier input to team activities.
  • Participates in Design Process and Assembly Reviews (DPARs), print reviews, and design reviews of new products.
  • Monitors and facilitates quality activities for part approval, verifies manufacturing processes (control plans, assembly instructions) and confirms process capability.
  • Uses quality tools and practices to establish approval criteria to ensure the identification of quality failure concerns for both internal and external manufactured parts and assemblies.
  • An example is Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA). Investigates unit quality related issues and concerns related to product and processes, gathers and analyzes data, resolves/facilitates resolution and implements corrective action.
  • Engages in applying/leading Quality tools on Customer Support Process (CSP), Continuous Improvement (CI),and/or Value Improvement (VI) teams.
  • Executes Quality Control Plan where implemented. Investigates product quality problems, determines root cause for quality problems, gathers and analyzes data and implements corrective action to reduce or eliminate non-value waste resulting from non-conformances, scrap or reclaim.
  • Assists in identifying, communicating and resolving supplier quality problems.
  • Engages in supplier quality plan formulation as necessary.
  • Conducts audits of new and existing suppliers to determine manufacturing capability and adherence to accepted quality practices.
  • Drives prevention actions. Facilitates and writes quality procedures for the purpose of maintaining/updating the factory quality system and supports quality system audits, reviews results with audit team, and participates in management review meetings.
  • Provides training and/or supervision to co-workers, inspectors, technicians and auditors on quality procedures and tools to monitor critical processes to assure consistent control and/or to implement cost-saving ideas to improve our products to meet customer expectations.

Highlights:

  • This position is eligible for incremental, progressive retention bonuses at every 90 days for the first year on assignment.
  • Retention bonuses are forfeited for those who do not complete their assignments or end assignments early. Subject to review.
  • This will be a 1st shift positions with overtime possible (7 am to 3:30 pm) but candidates must be open to working 3rd shift if the need arises (this is based on build schedules and is for short durations 2-3 months at a time).

Your Responsibilities 

  • As a Product Delivery Process Quality Engineer for Works in you will perform assembly quality planning activities for our new product large tractor programs. These activities will include identifying risk (risk assessments, pFMEAs), mitigating risk (developing mistake proofing and control plans), and managing risk (control plan execution). In addition, you will:        
  • Work with product design and manufacturing to identify design and manufacturing risks and help develop solutions to eliminate or control risk items to deliver a product and process that can repeatedly meet customer expectations for reliability and quality
  • Own the quality planning of a large portion of a new product tractor program, advocate and lead on behalf of our customers and our business to ensure the highest level of outgoing quality
  • Participate on PDP (Product Delivery Process) teams as the Quality representative, ensuring quality activities and plans are formulated and followed meet customer expectations for reliability and quality  
  • Engage in applying/leading Quality tools in Product Delivery Process (PDP) teams
  • Work with manufacturing to translate the FMEA into an acceptable control plan, and then design and execute valid process control strategies to ensure that products meet or exceed customer expectations at the required level of confidence
  • Investigate product quality problems by gathering and analyzing data, determine root cause and implement corrective and preventive action to issues found during the developmental process of the product design and initial builds

What Skills You Need (Required skills/experiences)

  • 2 or more years of experience with standard quality tools such as FMEA (Failure Modes Effect Analysis), SPC (Statistical Process Control), Root Cause Analysis, Statistics
  • 2 or more years of experience with manufacturing and/or distribution processes, quality, tooling, tool design, total preventative maintenance and facilities
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

What Makes You Stand Out (Desired skills/experiences)

  • Large tractor product experience
  • 1 or more years of experience in OFP or Product Delivery Process Assembly Quality or Product Delivery Process/Component/Supplier Quality
  • 1 or more years of experience in one or more related engineering areas: industrial, production, reliability, design, manufacturing
  • Experience executing statistical tools and techniques for quality management
  • ASQ certification in Quality or Six Sigma        

Education

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:
