Research & Development Engineer – “EMG Wearables"

Contract: 12 Months+

Surrounding Team & Key Projects:

  • The Agios Wearability team is working to evaluate metrics for wearability for Agios devices. This dedicated resource is required to provide support in running the high number of user experiments needed to evaluate metrics critical for Agios devices.
  • The role is required to be on-site as it involves work in a lab, running lab equipment, and facilitating research with human subjects.
  • Develop and implement a EMG measurement protocol to quantify encumbrance effects of different wearable prototypes (EEG. Experience placing dry electrodes)
  • Integrate this EMG protocol into other compatible systems
  • Run user studies evaluating prototypes using this EMG measurement system
  • Complete analysis and deliver results on the finding of the user study
  • Participate in other team wearability assessments – train to develop an expertise in the underlying factors that affect wearability
  • Write reports and posts to communicate with the broader team
  • Maintain lab equipment related to their work
  • Recruit participants for small-n studies

Summary:

  • Client mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. Through our family of apps and services, we're building a different kind of company that connects billions of people around the world, gives them ways to share what matters most to them, and helps bring people closer together. Whether we’re creating new products or helping a small business expand its reach, people at Facebook are builders at heart.  Our global teams are constantly iterating, solving problems, and working together to empower people around the world to build community and connect in meaningful ways. Together, we can help people build stronger communities — we're just getting started.

At Reality Labs, our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a motivated research technician to join our team, whose mission is to drive human-device studies to improve human experience in the augmented world. We are specifically looking for candidates with experience in supporting qualitative or quantitative human experiment data collection. The chosen candidates will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.

  • Run or assist in data analyst for wearability experiments, including EMG data
  • Conduct literature reviews on a wide field of research topics
  • Assist with recruiting and scheduling of experiment participants
  • Help with experimental design and provide feedback during design

Required Characteristics:

  • Holds a bachelor’s degree in the field of psychology, engineering, cognitive science, HCI, biomedical, human factors, ergonomic, or related areas
  • Experience working with actuator and instrumentation hardware (EMG, pressure sensors, etc.)
  • Proficiency with statistical toolboxes (such as Matlab, Python, R)
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and personal management skills
  • Experience running human experiments and collecting data

Desired Characteristics:

  • Advanced degree (ME, EE, HCI, HCDE, HF, BioMed, doctoral student)
  • Experience designing research protocols for both qualitative and quantitative data collection

Must-Haves / Non-Negotiable Skills:

  • Experience running studies with EMG measurement equipment
  • Data analysis on EMG data collected in those studies
  • Experience with human factors or wearability assessment
