Experience Level:
- At least 3 years experience in the specific role but may have some general working experience - focus on developing multiple types/categories of software including end-user applications and operating systems/utility software.
The work includes:
- Conducting requirements gathering and analysis to understand the domain of the software problem and/or functionality, the interfaces between hardware and software, and the overall software characteristics.
- Using programming, scripting, and/or database languages to write the software code.
- Supporting software testing, deployment, maintenance, and evolution activities by correcting programming errors, responding to scope changes, and coding software enhancements.
- Applying knowledge of software development best practices, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Designs, develops, and maintain software applications for controlling electromechanical automated testers and systems.
- Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.
Programming abilities:
- Need to be proficient in programming languages like Python, Java, C/C++, LabView, and MATLAB.
Communication skills:
- Need to be able to clearly communicate test results, testing requirements, and defects to stakeholders, developers, and tester.
Attention to detail:
- Need to be able to tolerate a lot of trial and error to perfect a system.
Analytical skills:
- Need to be able to analyze products properly during the software testing processes.
Other skills:
- Automation engineers may also need to establish quality assurance processes and monitoring, troubleshooting automated processes, and identify new automation opportunities.
