Summer Intern, Vector Core, Vector Biosciences

Duration: 2 Months

Location: 100% Remote

This intern will work on scalable molecular cloning and plasmid characterization, and nuclei purification for in vitro VCN assay development:

• Build knowledge and experimental skills in molecular cloning (Molecular Biology). Perform molecular cloning and plasmid characterization.

• Learn and perform experiments of nuclei fractionation (Cell Biology and Biochemistry). Optimize nuclei purification for different cell lines for In Vitro VCN assay development.

• Opportunity to network and learn from research.

• Opportunity to shadow, train, and contribute to optimize and develop bio-assays.

• A presentation/poster and report output

Month 1: • Overview and training on the AGT AWS system • Learning on essential knowledge and skills in molecular cloning • Bench experiment training on molecular cloning and plasmid characterization • Weekly 1:1 meeting with mentor Chang Xie

Month 2: • Clone, prepare and validate plasmids • Isolate nuclei from different cell lines, optimize the nuclei purification protocol.

Month 3: • Report and presentation of achievements at Vector Bioscience meeting

The student would benefit from one to two projects that have a clear outlined goal and provides the opportunity for training in multi-disciplinary methodologies. This role would also provide an opportunity for the student to work cross-functionally with different people within the Vector Bioscience group to obtain results and information. The student would also be required to write a report and present their achievements, further developing their skills in those areas.
