This position involves conducting polymer synthesis, characterizing products, and supporting process improvements while adhering to safety and quality standards. The role requires strong lab skills, effective communication, and teamwork to contribute to research and production efforts.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct synthesis of polymers from laboratory gram-scale up to several hundred grams
  • Synthesize simple small molecule monomers using standard organic chemistry techniques
  • Use analytical tests to characterize products and ensure final product quality
  • Document experiments and help in the preparation of technology transfer packages
  • Follow written and verbal protocols from lead chemists and contribute to process improvements
  • Maintain full compliance with all departmental and site-specific Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality regulations, systems, and procedures covering laboratory and scale-up activities
  • Perform routine lab and business unit maintenance to keep area clean and orderly
  • Maintain material database, inventory database and order chemical reagents from suppliers

Skills:

  • Experience with general laboratory techniques such as reaction set-ups, precipitation, filtration, Schlenk techniques, distillation, closed transfer, crystallization, rotary evaporators, and vacuum pumps/ovens.
  • Perform analysis of compounds and reaction mixtures using common methods: (GPC, MALDI, HPLC, MS, UV/VIS, FT-IR, NMR, TLC, IR, GC-MS).

Education/Experience:

  • B.S. or M.S in Chemistry - NO PHD candidates.
