Contract - 12 Months

Baltimore, MD 21226 Perform maintenance machining and repair work supporting major equipment overhauls and power generation outages. Responsibilities include disassembly, inspection, machining and manufacturing of replacement parts, component repairs, and equipment reassembly. The role requires strong hands-on experience with manual lathes, mills, grinders, and Bridgeport machines, along with the ability to work to tight tolerances and interpret technical drawings. Work independently and as part of a collaborative team while following strict safety and quality requirements.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance machining activities rather than high-volume production machining.
  • Support major equipment overhauls and power generation outages.
  • Disassemble equipment and components for inspection and repair.
  • Inspect components and determine machining or repair requirements.
  • Manufacture replacement parts using manual machining equipment.
  • Reassemble repaired or machined components and prepare equipment for shipment to plant sites.
  • Perform general machine shop operations and component repair activities.
  • Operate manual lathes, milling machines, grinders, and Bridgeport machines.
  • Perform turning, threading, drilling, tapping, shaft machining, and keyway machining.
  • Set up and indicate parts accurately before machining.
  • Work to precision tolerances of approximately ±0.001 inch.
  • Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision measurement instruments to verify dimensions.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Complete assigned machining tasks independently while collaborating with a team of approximately 8–10 machinists.
  • Participate in daily safety briefings and work-plan discussions at the beginning of each shift.
  • Follow all applicable safety, environmental, and shop procedures.
  • Participate in required onboarding and safety training.
  • Complete training related to hand tools, gas cylinder handling, environmental requirements, and other applicable shop activities.
  • Support additional qualifications such as rigging and forklift operation as required.
  • Operate or work around overhead bridge cranes safely; crane experience is highly valued.
  • Utilize company-provided machinery, tools, equipment, and computer systems for assigned work and training.

Education/Experience:

  • Strong hands-on proficiency in core manual machining operations.
  • Experience operating manual lathes, mills, grinders, and Bridgeport machines.
  • Ability to set up and indicate parts and consistently work to approximately ±0.001 inch tolerances.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and perform machining assignments independently.
  • Journeyman machinist or completed machinist apprenticeship preferred.
  • Equivalent practical machining experience may be accepted in place of formal certification, with approximately 5–20+ years of relevant experience considered.
  • Power generation experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience in shipyards, steel manufacturing, marine, or other heavy industrial environments is highly relevant.
  • CNC machining and G-/M-code programming knowledge is a plus.
  • CAD/CAM experience is a plus.
  • Overhead bridge crane experience is highly valued.
  • Must be willing to complete required safety and technical training.
