Location : KENNETT SQUARE Pennsylvania The Security Specialist will support personnel security operations by conducting and adjudicating background investigations for employees, contractors, and third-party vendors. This role helps mitigate insider-risk threats by ensuring regulatory compliance, analyzing risk factors, and providing security guidance. It requires strong investigative skills, experience with background screening tools, and knowledge of regulatory frameworks such as NERC/FERC.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Initiate, review, and adjudicate background investigations for employees, contractors, and third-party vendors.
  • Conduct personnel risk assessments to identify and mitigate insider threats such as fraud, theft, workplace violence, or compliance risks.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements (e.g., NERC, FERC) and internal security procedures for all background screening activities.
  • Collaborate with hiring managers, HR teams, and external partners to process investigations efficiently and accurately.
  • Communicate with applicants and vendors to resolve background screening issues, discrepancies, or missing information.
  • Serve as an advisor on personnel security concepts, policies, and risk mitigation processes.
  • Support development and execution of risk mitigation plans to maintain organizational security and compliance.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, records, and reports related to personnel investigations.
  • Manage third-party background screening workflows, including agencies such as Sterling and similar platforms.
  • Provide guidance and support during re-investigations and periodic reviews.

Skills:

  • Background Investigation Tools: Experience with platforms like Sterling (strongly preferred).
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with NERC, FERC, and other security/compliance frameworks.
  • Risk Assessment: Ability to identify, analyze, and mitigate personnel-related security risks.
  • Vendor/Contractor Screening: Experience processing security checks for third-party vendors and contractors.
  • Security Analysis: Strong investigative, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Skilled at maintaining detailed records, adjudication notes, and compliance-related documentation.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to work with employees, contractors, HR teams, and external agencies effectively.
  • Industry Experience (Nice to Have): Experience in the energy sector or similar regulated industries.
