Location : Windsor Mill, MD The Systems Engineer will provide on-site IT support for control room operations and enterprise-level infrastructure within electric utility environments. This role focuses on Windows desktop/server support, hardware troubleshooting, system refresh projects, and cross-team collaboration. The engineer will support real-time operational systems, assist with data center hardware deployments, and ensure reliable IT functionality for transmission and distribution operations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on Windows 10/11 desktop support, including imaging, configuration, and troubleshooting for control room and operational environments.
  • Maintain, diagnose, and repair server and workstation hardware, including HPE, Dell, and Cisco MDS systems.
  • Support enterprise data center environments involving storage hardware, server refresh efforts, and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Assist with NERC CIP–compliant processes, documentation, and security requirements for regulated utility systems.
  • Coordinate IT change management tasks using tools such as ServiceNow and JIRA, ensuring compliance with established procedures.
  • Work with networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, domain administration, and Windows networking support.
  • Interface with technical leads, management, and control room operators, providing clear communication and timely updates.
  • Travel as needed between sites, including weekly visits to the Bethesda Control Center.
  • Support utility projects including storage infrastructure refreshes, server hardware upgrades, and workstation deployment for real-time systems.Collaborate with an 18-member engineering/IT team to maintain system availability and operational continuity

Skills:

  • Windows Desktop Support: Windows 10 & 11 imaging, configuration, troubleshooting.
  • Server Hardware Support: Dell OpenManage, HPE OneView, server diagnostics & maintenance.
  • Networking: Windows networking, TCP/IP, domain administration.
  • ITSM & Change Management: ServiceNow, JIRA, structured change control processes.
  • Regulatory & Security: NERC CIP experience (highly preferred).
  • Communication & Leadership: Strong verbal communication with operators, management, and technical teams.
  • Storage & Virtualization: NetApp, VMware.
  • Networking Hardware: Cisco MDS.
  • Scripting & Automation: PowerCLI, PowerShell.
  • Real-Time System Support: Utility control room and operational system experience (preferred).
