Contract - 3+ Years

Location: Lexington, MA Designs, models, analyzes, and tests optical, electro-optical, and opto-mechanical systems and components, including sensors, lasers, fiber optics, and telecommunications products. Conducts research and development in physical and geometric optics, laser systems, laser characteristics, maintenance, and broadband optical sources. Applies advanced optical principles to achieve desired system performance outcomes. Develops component specifications, tolerances, simulations, and test procedures for electro-optical systems and components. Utilizes design-to-cost models, Six Sigma methodology, and structured engineering practices to ensure optical design requirements are met and verified. Other: • Clearance: Candidate may start with an interim clearance; strong preference for candidates with active Secret or Top Secret clearance. Candidate will be required to obtain Top Secret clearance after onboarding Work Location: 100% onsite in laboratory environment Interview Process: Initial prescreen via Zoom or phone followed by onsite final interview; second-round Zoom interview may be considered for relocating candidates Long-term contract opportunity (3+ years)

Job Responsibilities:

  •  Plan and prepare for extensive optical assembly, integration, and testing activities in laboratory cleanrooms
  •  Develop optical system alignment approaches, derive requirements, outline process flows, and design required ground support equipment (GSE)
  •  Collaborate with mechanical and opto-mechanical engineers to design mounts and assemblies with appropriate degrees of freedom and adjustment resolution
  •  Execute assembly and alignment of free-space and fiber-optic optical systems, including sensor integration and performance characterization
  •  Specify custom optical components such as mirrors, lenses, and filters; evaluate vendor capabilities; inspect and test procured optics
  •  Utilize optical test equipment including interferometers, polarimeters, laser beam profilers, alignment telescopes, and autocollimators
  •  Work with fiber optic cables and components, including testing and validation methods
  •  Develop and document AI&T procedures, build records, troubleshooting efforts, and issue resolution activities
  •  Conduct environmental testing campaigns including thermal cycling, altitude chamber testing, vibration testing, and thermal vacuum (TVac) testing to validate system performance
