Tempe, AZ 85281 Responsible for timely and accurate processing of employee payroll, including collection, review, data entry, editing, output, and verification of payroll information. The role supports high-volume, multi-state payroll operations while ensuring compliance with company policies, government regulations, labor agreements, and SOX requirements. Responsibilities include payroll auditing, employee inquiry resolution, payroll data analysis, record maintenance, process improvement, system testing, and special projects. Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience with payroll systems, preferably SAP, are required.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Process high-volume, multi-state payroll data accurately and within required deadlines.
  • Collect, review, input, edit, process, and verify payroll data and employee payroll checks.
  • Consistently apply company policies, government regulations, labor agreements, and applicable payroll processing requirements.
  • Maintain the security and confidentiality of payroll and employee information.
  • Review payroll audit reports for accuracy and request corrections when necessary.
  • Research employee payroll inquiries and provide timely and accurate resolutions.
  • Apply knowledge of collective bargaining agreements (CBA) and payroll requirements for union and other specialized workforce groups.
  • Organize and maintain payroll records and utilize special processing methods to minimize incorrect employee payments.
  • Follow established SOX processing maps, controls, and compliance requirements.
  • Assist with special payroll projects, system testing, process enhancements, and other assigned activities.
  • Document, maintain, and update payroll procedures and process documentation.
  • Analyze existing payroll business processes and recommend or implement changes to improve efficiency and accuracy while maintaining SOX compliance.
  • Analyze large volumes of payroll data using Microsoft Excel, including advanced Excel functionality and macros.
  • Use analytical skills to identify potential payroll issues, discrepancies, and processing risks.
  • Explain and interpret complex payroll information to employees and stakeholders at various levels of the organization.
  • Collaborate effectively with payroll, finance, HR, and other internal teams in a high-volume and high-pressure environment.
  • Work onsite five days per week.

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent training and experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in a high-volume, multi-state payroll department and/or payroll, accounting, or human resources environment.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills are required.
  • Experience working for a large organization preferred.
  • Experience with SAP or other payroll systems preferred.
  • Understanding of collective bargaining agreements and union payroll requirements preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player in a high-stress environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be available to work onsite 5 days per week.
