Location : OWINGS MILLS, Maryland The System Administrator will provide hands-on infrastructure support and technical project coordination for NFS storage migrations and enterprise server environments. The role focuses on Linux/Red Hat administration, VMware virtualization, server health and performance, backups, security patching, and coordination of migrations across approximately 200 application teams. The position requires strong enterprise infrastructure experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to support highly available production environments.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, 7, 8, and 9 servers from both hardware and operating system perspectives.
  • Coordinate and execute NFS storage migrations for unit systems and infrastructure projects.
  • Manage migration activities and technical coordination with approximately 200 application teams.
  • Discuss technical migration options, requirements, and impacts with application teams.
  • Complete data migrations according to established schedules and project requirements.
  • Manage and support VMware vSphere hypervisor environments for highly available virtualized servers.
  • Configure and maintain server processes, system configurations, and backups.
  • Monitor Linux and VMware platform health, availability, and performance.
  • Maintain accurate server inventory and configuration information within the CMDB.
  • Support production release management, including documenting, planning, and implementing IT changes.
  • Plan, coordinate, communicate, and implement security patching activities for Linux platforms.
  • Automate recurring processes using scripting and other available technologies.
  • Track infrastructure issues and maintain accurate technical documentation.
  • Assist with racking and stacking physical servers in data centers.
  • Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation for critical production systems.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and after-hours release deployment activities as required.
  • Provide technical expertise to maintain performance, availability, and reliability of server infrastructure.
  • Work closely with business and IT partners to maintain service levels and highly available compute services.
  • Support requests for new devices and provide technical guidance to internal customers.
  • Evaluate and maintain knowledge of emerging on-premises and cloud technologies.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of infrastructure changes for business and IT environments.
  • Ensure proper implementation of technology across production and development environments.
  • Identify opportunities to automate processes and improve operational efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues and make well-informed technical decisions.
  • Support change management practices to minimize incidents and maintain high availability.
  • Follow direction from Team Leads and Managers while working independently on assigned responsibilities.

Skills:

  • Strong Unix/Linux system administration experience, with Linux preferred.
  • Hands-on administration of Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments.
  • Experience managing physical and virtual enterprise servers.
  • Strong VMware vSphere/hypervisor administration experience.
  • Experience with NFS and storage migration activities.
  • Working knowledge of SAN, NAS, RAID, and backup technologies.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure and/or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure preferred.
  • Experience with Oracle Enterprise Linux, Solaris, or Exadata hardware is a plus.
  • Scripting experience using Python and/or Shell.
  • Zerto experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of server performance, availability, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with security patching and enterprise change management.
  • Strong project coordination and application-team communication skills.
  • Ability to explain highly technical information in clear, non-technical language
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Enterprise/Fortune 200–500 environment experience preferred.
  • Financial services or other large-scale enterprise infrastructure experience preferred

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field with 5–7 years of relevant experience, OR 6–9 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in IT infrastructure support, application support, cloud computing, or disaster recovery.
  • Relevant certifications such as Azure Administrator, Oracle Cloud Administrator, VMware, or Red Hat Enterprise Linux are preferred.
